Aquasource
Rainwater Harvesting- Use Rain Water, Not Drinking Water, To Flush
Your Toilet!
...and
run your washing machine, and...
Let
me tell you a story about Rainwater
Harvesting...
The
original Aquasource
unit was produced to answer the question...
"How
do I make the greatest water savings possible, with the most compact
tank possible?"
The
answer was "Use rainwater, not drinking water,
to flush the toilet." Why?
Because
the toilet uses a lot of water over the course of a year, and is
in constant use. Every time the toilet
is flushed, many times a day, the water level in the tank drops. This
means that there is always spare capacity in the tank to harvest
the next rainfall. Rainwater Harvesting
is the object, not storage! Simple, but effective, producing large
water savings.
Of
course, if we're going to use rainwater to supply the toilet, there
has to be a backup system so that mains water will be supplied if
tank water isn't available. That requirement led to the development
of a very special product- the Aquasource
twin-supply water controller.(see left)
The
Aquasource control
unit is built to perform this simple but important function...
"Supply
rainwater when you can, and mains water when you can't."
If
for any reason the Aquasource
controller can't provide rainwater...
- the
tank is empty
- there
is a blackout and the pump can't work
- the
pump has failed
- the
connection from pump to tank has been broken...
...whatever
the circumstance, if tank water can't be supplied, the controller
uses mains water automatically. When rainwater
is available again, the controller switches back- automatically.
Through this process, the tank has NOT been refilled. It's sitting
there ready to harvest the greatest amount of water possible from
the next rain. That's Rainwater Harvesting
at it's best.
The
Aquasource controller
was married with a stylish compact water tanks (so compact, some
can fit through a standard doorway) and a heavy-duty submersible
pump to produce the Aquasource
2000L litre system. (see left)
Now
there was a compact, integrated unit that took up little space,
yet could save large amounts of water. Far-sighted Builders and
Developers started buying the Aquasource
to be fitted to their new homes. One leading Developer is providing
some 1300 Aquasource
systems to five of their developments, across three States. Leading
builders have started fitting Aquasource
to homes they are building in the ACT, NSW, Victoria and South Australia,
as well as individual customers in all States.
Cleverly,
the Aquasource had
been designed to be modular. The next step in the evolution of this
wonderful new product was to add on an extra 750 litre tank module,
and produce the Aquasource
1500 (shown at the top of this page). This is ideal for supplying
two toilets in a larger family.
Adding
another tank module produces the Aquasource
2250, ideal for multiple toilets, and supplying the washing machine.
Adding
another module produces the Aquasource
3000.
We're
proud to have been there, working with the designers of Aquasource
over a number of years as the product developed. But we wanted more.
In
our contacts with environmentally-aware architects, engineers, builders,
plumbers, organisations and individuals, we were aware that there
was demand to do more than just flush the toilet or run the washing
machine. After all, people in the bush use rainwater for everything
in the house- and usually prefer it to mains water
if that's available.
We
wanted to be able to marry the Aquasource
controller to a tank of the customer's choosing, to supply as much
of the house as the customer was comfortable with. We also wanted
the system to be able to grow with the customer's needs. The result
was the Aquasource Plus
kit. (see left)
With
the Aquasource Plus
kit, you can choose how much of the house you want to supply
now, and connect the controller accordingly.
Choose a tank that will meet your current, and future needs (it's
cheaper to buy and instal a bigger tank now, than a second one later).
Later, if you decide to supply more of the house, you can add extra
connections from the controller, moving it if necessary. An increasing
number of clients are choosing to supply their whole home. Here,
the controller is installed where mains water enters the home, and
utilises the existing plumbing of the home. A whole-home installation
isn't for everyone, and there's some detail to consider, but you'll
be seeing a lot more of them in the future.
Summing
up...
- Aquasource
automatically selects the source of water supply. If the storage
tank has water, it is selected. When the storage tank is low,
Aquasource. will automatically
switch to mains water supply.
- The
integrated-tank units are the most compact design available. Set
back requirements for building regulations can be achieved even
in the inner city and unit developments.
- This
is not a gravity fed system. Aquasource
750, 1500, 2250, 3000 and the Aquasource
Plus Kit come complete
with an Aquasource control
unit- and a heavy-duty submersible pump, fully protected from
the elements and interference inside the tank.
- The
Aquasource range proudly
specifies heavy duty submersible pumps for minimal noise and maximum
life.
- Being
fully automatic, there is no need to remember to use the water
or turn valves, set timers etc. Aquasource
saves you water and money, automatically.
- If
power is interrupted, and the pump can't operate, Aquasource
automatically switches to the mains supply. Maintenance levels
are low. The units are designed to prevent the entry of contaminants,
the breeding of mosquitoes and the entry of vermin.
- The
Aquasource unit has received Standards Australia's Watermark Certification.
From
a 750 litre integrated unit supplying one toilet, to a whole-house
installation, Aquasource
Rainwater Harvesting Water Tanks
from Enviro Friendly Products
can help you save water.
