The previous Brisbane City Council Water Tank Rebate Scheme finished on June 30, 2007, and a new scheme applies from July 1st.

A lot of our customers are asking how this affects them, especially if they are ordering a water tank which could be delivered AFTER June 30th. Here's the information to help...

Rebate Arrangements For Tanks Ordered Before June 30, 2007

As long as you ordered a tank prior to June 30., you will be eligible for the current rebates. They are $500 on tank or tanks over 3000 litres, and $750 for tank or tanks over 5000 litres.

To claim the Rebate, you will have to submit the claim prior to September 30 (click for details)- even if the tank has not been delivered, or installed.

Eligibility conditions for rainwater tank rebates

To be eligible for a rebate, a rainwater tank(s) must:

* comply with the capacity requirements of the rebate applied for
* be purchased between 1 July 2006 and 30 June 2007

The closing date for applications is 30 September 2007. This is regardless of whether the tank has been delivered and installed.

Other eligibility conditions include:

* rebates are available to owners of existing and new homes. The applicant must be the owner at the time of application
* you are not eligible for the rebate if you install a rainwater tank as a condition of development or as a requirement under a Local Area Plan or the Queensland Development Code Part 25
* one rainwater tank rebate per property only is allowed for the term of the scheme, regardless of change of ownership
* if you own a residential unit or townhouse, you may claim the rebate if the tank is installed on or reasonably near your dwelling and you meet all other criteria
* the installation address must be in Brisbane City Council, and the house must be connected to reticulated water supply
* recognised not-for-profit organisations are eligible for rebates on rainwater tanks installed at residential properties they own
* the rebate is not for commercial properties or other non-residential properties. All properties owned by companies are not eligible for the rebate

Internal connections

An internal connection is a compulsory requirement of the 2007/08 rebate scheme.

Using your rainwater tank

By substituting rainwater for toilet flushing, clothes washing and various outdoor uses you can significantly reduce your use of town water.

Approvals and standards

All pipes and fittings connecting the rainwater tank to your property should be done in accordance with plumbing and building standards.

To be eligible to apply for a Brisbane City Council rainwater tank rebate under the 2007/08 financial year scheme, rainwater tanks must be purchased between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2008.
