We Buy and Sell Renewable
Energy Certificates (RECs).
- We
buy the RECs, or Renewable Energy Certificates, that can be created
when you buy and instal a solar hot water sytem from us, or someone
else
- We
buy the RECs, or Renewable Energy Certificates, that can be created
when you buy and instal a photovoltaic PV system from us, or someone
else.
This
is done under the Australian Mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET)
Scheme.
If
you purchase your hot water system or PV system from us,
we'll handle the process for you, and purchase your RECs- we are
Registered Agents.
If
you've already purchased your system from somebody else,
and need to sell (assign) your RECs, we can help.
- The
first thing to know is that you have 12 months from the date of
installation to act. After that, your entitlement lapses, and
you lose a lot of money- typically over $1000 for a solar HWS.
You have three choices.
- Do
nothing for 12 months, and lose the right to create RECs
- Register
your RECs, and gamble that they will go up in value, or, what
the vast majority of people do,
- Sell
(assign) the RECs at the current rate. A bird
in the hand...
If
you have a Renewable Energy Certificates entitlement, we will either
register it for you for a $40 fee, or create the RECs, and buy them
from you. The value of RECs is currently dropping. Please check
for current rates.
The
process of us buying your RECs from you takes around 2-5 weeks.
When we receive your properly completed paperwork, we create the
RECs on a Federal Government Register. It usually takes a couple
of weeks for them to be verified. Once we receive that advice, we
pay you within a couple of days.

How
To Sell Us Your Solar Hot Water
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).
Step
1. Check which Zone you live in by checking the Register
of Solar Water Heaters Postcode Zones.
Step
2. Check the exact Model of your Solar hot water system.
Step
3. Check that your system is on the Register
of Solar Hot Water Heaters and note how many RECs apply for
your Zone.
Step
4. Download and print a copy of the RECs
Assignment Form. Fill in the details, and post to us. The details
required are;
- the exact model number of your system
- the name/address etc of the plumber who installed the system
- your name/address and signature.
- the number of RECs.
- please leave the value of the RECs blank. We will contact you
when we receive your Claim Form to confirm the buying price on that
day. We will only proceed with your acceptance of that price.
- Provide phone and email contact details
Step
5. Let us know whether you'd prefer to be paid by cheque,
or by Direct Transfer to your bank account
That's
it. Fill in the Claim Form and post it to us. If you haven't heard
back in a week, give us a call- your paperwork could have got lost
in the mail. We'll confirm a price with you, and get on with creating
your RECs. In around 2-5 weeks, we'll make payment by the method you've
requested.
How
To Sell Us Your Photovoltaic
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
Step
1. Open the PV
RECs Fact Sheet. Go to the Table on Page 7, and from your Postcode,
check the Zone you live in. At the bottom of that page, check the
Zone Rating and make a note of the number.
Step
2. Check the exact rated output (peak watts) of your panels,
and multply that by the number of panels.
Step
3. Multiply the Zone Rating figure x the output of your
PV system in kilowatts x 15 (the number of years you are allowed
to calculate your RECs over. Round the figure down to the next full
number. That's how many RECs you can create.
Step
4. Download and print a copy of the PV
RECs Assignment Form. Fill in the details, and post to us. The
details required are;
- your name and address
- the name/address/accreditation etc of the BCSE-accredited who
installed the system
- the Brand of your PV system
- the exact model and serial numbers of each of your PV panels
- your name/address and signature.
- the number of RECs.
- please leave the value of the RECs blank. We will contact you
when we receive your Claim Form to confirm the buying price on that
day. We will only proceed with your acceptance of that price.

Step
5. Let us know whether you'd prefer to be paid- by cheque,

That's
it. Fill in the Claim Form and post it to us. If you haven't heard
back in a week, give us a call- your paperwork could have got lost
in the mail. We'll confirm a price with you, and get on with creating
your RECs. In around 3 weeks, we'll make payment by the method you've
requested.
Example:
Mr. Smith lives in Westmead in Sydney (Postcode 2145). He buys a
Sharp 1.5 kw system. How many RECs/Solar Credits can he create and sell? (We are awaiting passage of legislation to enact this)
- Mr.
Smith checks page 7 of the PV RECs Fact Sheet, and finds that
his Postcode- 2145- places him in Zone 3, and that the Zone Rating
is 1.382.
- Mr.
Smith then checks that his PV system is comprised of nine 175
watt panels. That means that the total output of his system is
9 x 175 watts = 1575 watts = 1.575 kw.
- Mr
Smith multiplies 1.382 x 1.575 x 15 to get a figure of 32.64
- Mr
Smith rounds that figure down to the next whole number = 32, and multiplies it by 5 (the figurte provided for by the Renewable Energy Target legislation before the Parliament) = 160
- Mr
Smith can sell us 160 RECs/Solar Credits. If the current price was $40, we would pay Mr Smith $6400.
