Grey Water (Greywater) Reuse in Queensland

Grey water reuse systems watering our gardens can replace huge amounts of mains water, bypassing water restrictions, and saving money on both water and sewerage charges. Grey Water can now be reused on domestic blocks in Queensland. Queensland's greywater reforms, commencing March 1, 2006 will provide a legal framework for councils to allow the use of greywater in sewered areas, under the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2002.

Queensland's greywater reforms, commencing March 1, 2006 provide a legal framework for councils to allow the use of greywater in sewered areas, under the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2002. Councils will be able to promote greywater use in urban areas, if they determine this is useful as a local strategy to reduce water demand.

Greywater Guidelines for councils is available to help councils manage applications for the use of greywater in sewered areas. The guidelines have been produced to assist councils with processing applications, communicating with homeowners and meeting their obligations for management of greywater use.

Greywater Guidelines for plumbers can help plumbers assess whether the homeowner has suitable and sufficient land to distribute greywater. The guidelines have been produced as a resource for plumbers to provide advice to homeowners on the purchase and installation costs of greywater systems, prior to the homeowner making an application to council.
