Plastank Water Tank FAQ's
1.
How do I choose a location for my tank?
There are many factors that will determine the most appropriate
location of your rainwater tank. Nylex recommends that you walk
around your house and note the locations of your downpipes.
The
closer the tank is to a downpipe, the simpler and cheaper the installation
will be. Once you have selected an appropriate site, you can begin
to prepare this site for the tank.
2.
How much water will I collect?
The amount of rainwater you will collect is dependant on a number
of factors, including:
*
The size of your roof – including pitch and shape.
* The amount of rainfall you experience in your area.
* The number of down pipes you have leading into the tank.
For
every millimetre of rain on 1m2 of your roof, you will collect 1
litre of water.
To
determine the amount of water you will be likely to collect, please
refer to “Selecting the Right Tank for Your Home”.
3.
What do I get with my tank?
If you purchase a round rainwater tank, you will receive a tap /
gate valve, an inlet with strainer and an overflow.
If
you purchase a slimline / rectangular rainwater tank, you will receive
two brass outlets, a tap / gate valve, an inlet with strainer and
an overflow.
4.

8. How do I apply for the government
rebate?
Before you can apply for the government rebate, you need to:
*
Keep your purchase receipt.
* Have your plumber provide you with a certificate of compliance
once the tank is installed.
Once
you have completed these two items, contact your local water authority
and request that they send you a rebate application form to complete.
You will be required to provide your water authority with the purchase
receipt and certificate of compliance.
Your
water authority will then credit your water account for the rebate
amount.
9.
Can I drink the water from my tank?
Nylex recommends that you do not drink the water from your tank.
10.
What is the best way to use my stored rainwater?
The most effective way to use rainwater is to use it to flush your
toilet. On average, 19% of the potable water supplied to your house
is used to flush the toilet.
By
using a Rainflush System to flush your toilet, you will make maximum
use of your rainwater whilst reducing the demands you place on fresh
drinking water.
11.
How can I divert the stored water to flush my toilet or use in my
washing machine?
The use of a Nylex Rainflush System will provide you with this capability.
The
Rainflush System provides you with a continuous and pressurised
water supply. The system will use your tank water and divert to
the mains if the supply of tank water runs out.
The
Rainflush System can be used for:
*
Flushing toilets
* Washing machines
* Running a sprinkler
* Washing the car
There
are two Rainflush Systems available:

13.
Why is a slimline tank more expensive than a traditional round tank?
The cost of a rainwater tank is based on the raw materials that
are used in the manufacturing process. All Nylex rainwater tanks
are manufactured from polyethylene. Approximately 80% more polyethylene
resin is required to manufacture a slimline tank than a round tank.
Slimline
tanks require a larger amount of resin to create a thicker wall
that will not bubble out when the head (water) pressure grows in
the unit as it fills. Round tanks do not need as much resin as they
allowing the head (water) pressure to be more evenly distributed.
14.
Is it cheaper for me to buy more than one tank?
Nylex provides discounts on the purchase of 22,700L, 30,000L, 35,000L,
45,400L and 47,200L combinations (minimum purchase of 2 tanks for
each of these sizes).
15.
How do I connect one tank to another?
Two tanks can be connected together via a balance pipe. Nylex recommends
that this is done by a licensed plumber.
16.
How long is the warranty on my tank?
Nylex provide a full 10 year unlimited warranty on our entire range
of tanks.
17.
Can I bury my tank underground?
Nylex recommends that you bury up to one third of the wall height.
Any more than this will void your warranty.
18.
What base do I need to prepare for my tank?
You can place your tank on a bed of sand, a concrete slab or a tank
stand:
*
Sand - A 7-10cm sand bed is an ideal base. Ensure
the sand bed is 30cm wider than the diameter of the tank and that
the sand cannot be eroded from under the tank. ie. direct overflow
away from the tank.
* Concrete - Tank may be sited on a level concrete
slab slightly wider than the diameter of the tank.
* Stand - Only tank stands with a hardwood decking
spaced no more than 5cm apart should be used. Bearers must have
sufficient strength to prevent deflection when tank is full.
19.
What is the height of a tank stand?
A tank stand is 600mm high and at the base is 100mm wider than the
tank.
20.
What pump do I need for my house?
The pump you may need depends on the number of people in your house
and what you intend to use the pump for.
Nylex
can provide you with a range of pumps to assist you in dispersing
your stored water in and around your home. Pump options include:
*
Low Volume Pressure Pumps to service 2 taps.
* Pressure Pumps for small (3 taps), medium (4
taps) and large (5-6 taps) homes.
* High Volume Pressure Pumps to service 7 taps.
* Transfer Pumps – to move stored water from
one location to another.
* Submersible Pumps – to place inside your
stored water supply.
To
determine the amount of taps your pump will need to service for
your home, allow one tap per person in your household plus two taps.
For
example:
2 person household = 2 taps + 2 taps (for washing machine &
dishwasher) = 4 taps
3 person household = 3 taps + 2 taps (for washing machine &
dishwasher) = 5 taps
4 person household = 4 taps + 2 taps (for washing machine &
dishwasher) = 6 taps
5 person household = 5 taps + 2 taps (for washing machine &
dishwasher) = 7 taps
